How do I migrate my data?

Migrating data from one CRM system to another is no mean feat! It's a complex process, almost a project within a project, requiring careful planning and execution. In particular, you'll need to

  1. Data cleansing
Migration will be an opportunity to carry out a major clean-up operation beforehand, freeing you from poor-quality, useless and/or obsolete data. Don't forget to talk to your DPO (Data Processing Officer). He'll have his say!
  2. Rethink your data model
Data structures can vary from one CRM to another. It's important to ensure that migrated data is compatible with the new system. This is the perfect time to correct the semantic and ontological errors that plagued your old CRM.
  3. Ensure data integrity
Relationships between records (for example, between contacts and their transaction history) may be approached differently from one CRM to another. You'll need to be particularly careful to avoid inconsistencies after migration. Pay particular attention to customizations and/or integrations from the old system. Evaluate and adapt these elements for the new system.
  4. Plan for downtime
Plan the migration well in advance, to minimize the impact on day-to-day operations. Insufficient downtime will put pressure on you, and too much downtime may affect business operations.
  5. Watch out for hidden costs
Be aware of additional costs associated with migration, such as consultancy services, additional training or changes to IT infrastructure.

In short, a successful CRM migration requires thorough preparation, attention to data management and careful planning to overcome challenges and minimize risks.

Fortunately, in most cases, this work can be automated.
