Freshworks was founded in October 2010 in India. The company was initially called Freshdesk, starting as a customer support software provider. The idea for Freshdesk was sparked by the founder's personal experience with poor customer service, which highlighted the need for better customer support tools. Freshworks quickly expanded its product lineup to include various business software solutions beyond customer support. Recognizing its broader offering, the company rebranded from Freshdesk to Freshworks in June 2017.

Headquartered in San Mateo, California, Freshworks has established a global footprint, with offices in India, the UK, Australia, and Germany, serving over 150 countries. Demonstrating its growth and success, Freshworks went public on September 22, 2021, listing on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol FRSH.
